3. Educational Qualification & Age Limit
Eligibility is meticulously evaluated based on the applicant's academic record and age. Only passed candidates are eligible to apply. Students waiting for final results are not eligible.
Age Limit Constraints
- The maximum age limit for the JRF positions is 28 years as on the closing date of the online application (11 July 2026).
- Age Relaxation: 5 years relaxation in case of SC / ST candidates, and 3 years in case of OBC candidates.

Core Educational Requirements
- For JRF-E1 to JRF-E12, JRF-M1 to JRF-M3: M.E. / M.Tech / M.Sc (Engg.) or equivalent post graduate degree in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.5 on a 10 point scale.
- For JRF-E13 (M.Sc Route): M.Sc in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 65% average of all Semesters or 6.84 CGPA/CPI on a 10 point scale.
- For JRF-E13 (M.Tech Route): M.Tech. or equivalent post graduate degree in First Class with an aggregate minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.5 on a 10 point scale.
- Note: All degrees should be duly recognised by AICTE / UGC. Candidates who have pursued Professional courses through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are not eligible to apply.
4. Mandatory NET / GATE Qualification
Merely possessing the Master's degree does not make a candidate eligible. The candidates MUST have qualified one of the following national-level examinations:
- CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lectureship.
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MoE.
- Joint Admission Test (JAM) conducted by MOE.
- Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).
- Selected through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MOE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISC, IISER, NISER, etc.
5. Fellowship Stipend & Contract Duration
- Monthly Stipend: The Fellowship Stipend as JRF will be ₹ 37,000 per month.
- Promotion to SRF: There is a possibility to be increased to ₹ 42,000 per month as Senior Research Fellow (SRF) after the completion of two years, at the sole discretion of ISRO.
- HRA & Medical: House Rent Allowance (HRA) will be paid at prescribed rates if hostel accommodation is not provided. Medical benefits for self will be admissible as per extant rules. No DA will be paid.
- Contract Duration: The Fellowship will be initially for a duration of TWO YEARS. The maximum period of engagement of JRF and SRF put together shall not exceed FIVE YEARS.
- Note: The position of JRF will not confer any claim or right whatsoever for regular appointment in URSC or in any of ISRO/DOS Centres.
6. Screening & Selection Procedure
